That's right; Graspop! The Metal Meeting once again lived up to its expectations and delivered one hell of a weekend
I dont really know how to make a full report of it but i'll do my best^^
First things first it was freeeaking hot! And by hot i mean covers in suncream-hot. But that didnt fase me as there actually was Suncream XD
Enter Graspop. Take in the band shirts everywhere, people allready singing along with cd's before any bands started, and the "TIMMY' chants that started circulating ...(and would remain so till the very last day xp)and you've got one very gigantic group of metalheads allready in the Festival spirit! I can describe teh whole Festival in storyline but seeing as that woul take too long (annd the fact that i got Tagged XD) i'll describe everything with plusses and minusses!
+ Buddy's! i got spend some time with people i Rarely see these days, and reuniting with them was great and nostalgic in a way XD we had fun and our random games (involving an enflamed bottle, wax ball on a wire, and a gigantic toiletroll..)kept us allways in good spirits and i was real glad to talk to them again. Hope to see y'all again guys!
+ New Buddy's ; meeting the coolest Austrian Metalheads at Graspop, Lucas and Jack. We had a Blast in teh Moshpit!!
+ The hygienic facillities. There was allways a place nearby to freshen up and make use of Decent toilets. respect.
Bands i'd like to mention;
+ Dragonforce! First band i saw and they performed real well and got the crowd riled up for the whole festival. amazing solos (even one with tongue)!
+ Blind Guardian! Amazing Voice , Amazing Guitars, Amazing everything. They were living proof that a great Band can entertain without playing their most beloved songs.
+ Heaven And Hell! Though no Black Sabbath, these guys still got it. Dio may have one of the most powerfull and distinctive voices out there, even to this day forward and for having a 30+ year carreer that's saying a Lot.
+ Hatebreed! Great (if not greatest)connection with the crowd. I admit not being a real big Hatebreed fan but they had the crowd going wild nonstop. The lead singer also showed a great act of class by playing a tribute song to the members of Killswitch Engage, who cancelled due to the unexpected death of a family member.
+ Devil Driver! props for a very impressive an dpowerfull performance and appearing at Graspop Many years in a row!
+ Disturbed! gave me a kinda Metallica-esque feeling with how many of their songs got sang along^-^ They performed great, David Draiman has a unique peronality and captivating voice, wich made for a Great crowd connection and had everyone hooked untill the very last moment, even when i wanted to leave early due to the sun really doing a number on me!>->
+ Children Of Bodom! My fave on the List. and to be neutral; They deserved to be sundays main event. Not only did they play great, they even adjust some of their old material and create longer solo's riffs and fusion songs to keep the crowd going nonstop:d Alexi teasing Final Countdown was so typical of him, but yet had everyone fooled Xp gotta love the guy. There was not a single song played from the Album 'Are You Dead Yet' and they even played some songs i didnt even see them play live before. They tore down the place and received the BIGGEST Encore chants and claps i heard on Graspop and to be honest if Manson wasnt gonna do mainstage in the next 5 minutes i think they would have
- Minusses!
- The terrible terrible heat, people were just teasing sunstrokes DX
- The Graspop coins. They were really damn expensive and hard to get.
- The French camping neighbours who were a real pain in the ***
- The Bass that was tuned WAY too strong. the chestpounding bass witheld me from seeing most mainstage bands up real close in this heat, and it overlapped the Mic work of a LOT of performers during hard or fast drums which was a real damn Shame.
- Wasted Mainevents. I am not going to tear Slipknot and Manson into the ground but even the people ive met that Wanted to see them admitted being dissappointed. They both performed sloppy and poorly. When both did about 2-3 songs you could see the crowd thinning out enormously and for a Main Event that just should not be.
But besides the minusses, i had a BLAST! i had lots more fun and saw much more Bands than described here, but i think this suffices enough for a report^^ Seeya next year Metalheads!
